Shillong: The Meghalaya College Non-Teaching Employees Association (MCNTEA) has decided to go for a ‘pen down strike’ on October 4 and 5 in protest against the adamant attitude of the State Government in addressing their demand for the release of the pending 30 per cent of the arrears.
Vice president of the MCNTEA, J Kharbuki, on Monday said, “We had sent letters to meet the Chief Minister twice on August 18 and September 3, whereby we were directed to meet the Education Minister. We subsequently sent a letter to Education Minister Prof RC Laloo on September 17 seeking an appointment, but so far there has been no response.”
There are around 15 deficit colleges in the State – 10 in East Khasi Hills, two each in Garo Hills and Ri Bhoi and one in West Khasi Hills.
The association has also expressed disappointment over the non-supportive stance of the teachers and professors of the different colleges in the association’s move, despite being part and parcel of the college management.
