Valiant Togan remembered on 148th death anniv

TURA, Dec 12: Tributes were paid to Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma, an A.chik warrior, on his 148th death anniversary at Chisobibra, South Garo Hills, on Saturday.
Togan is remembered as the man who led Garo warriors to fight the Britishers at a time when India was afflicted with colonialism.
The observance on Saturday at Togan Memorial Park was attended by Williamnagar MLA, Marcuise N Marak, as well as East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe, among others.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Marcuise said it was Togan who led the A.chik warriors to fight the British Army in Garo Hills.
Referring to the contemporary scenario, Marcuise highlighted the need to fight for development, eradication of poverty and social evil.
The legislator also informed that the government will allocate a special budget in the next financial year for the death anniversary of the warrior.
Marcuise further beseeched the people to work in tandem with the district administration in order to bring development to the region.
Meanwhile, the DC spoke at length about the eminence of Togan and informed that the district administration is collaborating with the Tourism department to revamp the Togan Memorial Park at Chisobibra.
He also exhorted the locals to comply with the COVID-19 protocols during Christmas.
