SHILLONG, Jan 4: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Monday informed that over 60 per cent of the land compensation for the Shillong-Dawki road project has been cleared.
“The deputy commissioners of East Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills are on the job and maybe by the end of this month we will be able to clear around 80 per cent compensation to the concerned landowners,” he added.
The Rs 1,251-crore road project is being funded by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency. The 71-km long NH-40 will be converted into a four-lane highway from Umshyrpi bridge in Shillong to Bañiun at 7th Mile, Upper Shillong.
The Defence authorities have given their permission to start the construction work.
The project includes construction of a new bridge over the Umngot river at Dawki in West Jaintia Hills.
