SHILLONG, Jan 14: The state BJP delegation, camping in New Delhi for the past few days, met Union Minister of State for Home GK Reddy on Thursday and discussed various issues, including the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.
The team’s plan was to meet Home Minister Amit Shah but it did not happen due to his busy schedule.
The BJP’s state president Ernest Mawrie, who is leading the team, said as Shah is visiting states and meeting him will not be possible soon, they will return to the state in a day or two.
Mawrie said Reddy assured them that he would communicate all that they had raised on the ILP issue to Shah.
“We raised our points on ILP during a detailed discussion that we had with him (Reddy). He assured us that he will take up the matter with the Home Minister and discuss it thoroughly,” Mawrie said.
He said Shah, who was away in Ahmedabad and busy, had asked them to discuss the issues with Reddy.
“As directed, we held the discussions with the MoS (Home). We are not waiting any longer. We are returning,” Mawrie said.
Given Reddy’s assurance to them, he said the state BJP will not take up the issues with the Home Minister when the latter visits the state later this month.
On alleged corruption, Mawrie said they submitted RTI findings of misappropriation of funds under Special Assistant Grant in Garo Hills Autonomous District Council and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council to Reddy.
He added that they had briefed the MoS (Home) of the political situation in the state and discussed how elections to the GHADC can be held early.
