SHILLONG, Jan 14: A day after the BJP’s state unit had flagged the issue of alleged corruption in two autonomous district councils before the party’s national president JP Nadda, the state’s Cabinet Minister James Sangma asked it to substantiate the charges with evidence.
Sangma, who is a leader of National People’s Party that heads the state’s coalition government, told journalists on Thursday that while everyone has the right to make accusations in a democratic setup, the charges have to be based on facts.
“The thing is that these (allegations) need to be substantiated with evidence and hard facts.” Sangma insisted.
He said making an allegation without any basis is irresponsible on the part of any leader.
“We are working together as a coalition and BJP is a part of the government. We have always said that if there is an issue, which is of concern and calls for a discussion, it needs to be raised at the right platform where we all come, sit together and discuss,” he added.
A state BJP delegation, currently camping in the national capital, had raised the issue of alleged corruption, worth crores of rupees, in Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council and Garo Hills Autonomous District Council before the party’s national president on Wednesday.
