JOWAI, Jan 15: The Coordination Committee on International Border has alleged that the international border pillars along the Dawki-Jaliakhola in West Jaintia Hills were not correctly positioned while also accentuating the need for central or the state government to relocate the pillars to their original position.
On Thursday, a surveying team comprising officials from the West Jaintia Hills District Administration, Revenue department, Border Security Force, headman of Dawki, Dolloi and the CCIB leaders visited Dawki and conducted a survey on the border where the fencing is to take place.
During the survey, it was found that the pillars are wrongly positioned. “Since all pillars in the area are not in a proper location as it was during 1975, we strongly demand that the error should be rectified and only then the border fencing can be erected in the area, that too on the zero point not 150 yards from the pillars towards Indian territory”, K Myrshiang, a member of the CCIB, said. “This is our land and we inherited it from our great-great-grandparents. And if the fencing takes place, we will lose huge quantity of our land,” said the son of a landowner.
