Senior journo passes away

 SHILLONG: Senior journalist Prasad Gupta, 55, passed away at Guwahati on Saturday.

He is survived by his wife and three sons.

Popular as ‘Kaku’, Gupta had endeared the journalist fraternity and the people in general with his honest and straight-forward approach.

A keen sports person and an inspiring, joyous and enthusiastic figure, Gupta’s passing away came as a shock to those who were closely associated with him.

Gupta, who was associated with several media organizations, both print and broadcast, was also a special correspondent, economic affairs, of Guwahati based english daily, Eastern Chronicle and news editor of the local news channel, Media Plus.

He was the executive director of the United News Network (UNN), which he had pioneered.

Gupta, who was treasurer of the Shillong Press Club, had also co-founded the All Meghalaya Journalists’ Union (AMJU), of which he was elected the general secretary recently.

His mortal remains would be brought to the Shillong Press Club at 1 pm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the All Meghalaya Journalist Union held a meeting to condole the sudden demise of its general secretary Prasad Gupta at Shillong Club on Saturday and observed a two minutes silence.
