Ri Bhoi farmers visit WJH for exposure

JOWAI, Jan 20: Farmers from Ri Bhoi Social Service Centre, Shillong, visited Mulum village under Laskein Block in West Jaintia Hills on Wednesday for gaining exposure on various farming-related activities.
As many as nine members of the Iaraplang PGS group from Mulum and 13 members of the centre were also present.
The programme was an inter-district farmer’s exposure visit organised by Social Service Centre, Archbishop’s House, Shillong, in collaboration with Society For Urban & Rural Empowerment (SURE) and North East Slow Food & Agrobiodiversity Society (NESFAS) under the project – ‘No one shall be left behind: Biodiversity for food, Nutrition and Energy Security funded by Rural Electrification Corporation Foundation (REC)’.
Also, indigenous food items were prepared by both the groups.
The groups exchanged best practices of vegetables cultivation and also shared success stories about the PGS of Mulum and farmers of Ri Bhoi.
Meghalaya Basin Development Agency and some individuals/ self-help groups (SHGs) also provided varieties of seeds to the members to sown in their respective kitchen garden.
