TURA: In protest against imposition of a three-day forced shutdown from October 5 by the MeECL Engineers Association and Association of Power Engineers, various NGOs of Dalu held a public rally in Dalu on Monday.
The NGOs said consumers under the Dalu Distribution Sub-Division, MeECL, including the business section, students and the general public, have been facing immense problems due to interruption and irregularities of power supply.
Stating that since the beginning of monsoons this year power cuts have become a daily routine, the NGOs said that the MeECL Asst Engineer, J Kr Deka is irregular in his work and an incompetent officer. “We have come to know through some MeECL employees that even during emergencies the official vehicles are left without fuels for the employees to be able to attend to the problems,” the NGOs alleged.
The NGOs also said that the public rally in protest of the MeECL was held after considering all the inconveniences and problems that the people of the area have been enduring for a long time due to the negligence of the concerned officers.
“We believe that it is totally unjustified that due to the mistake committed by an individual or two, the MeECL employees should castigate the general masses,” the NGOs stated.
Sources informed that thousands of people including the leading NGO members participated in the rally.
