As per reports, the worker and the driver had an altercation with regard to the toll fees.
In a short while, a heated argument broke out following which villagers gathered and attempted to thrash the driver.
However, with the timely intervention from the police personnel of Byrnihat Police Outpost, the driver managed to escape. But the angry mob damaged his vehicle.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, the ladies working at the toll plaza alleged that such harassment by drivers is meted out to them every now and then.
However, they said that what irked them was a video of one of the lady workers which was made viral on social media, partiularly onFacebook.
An FIR has been filed with the Byrnihat Police Outpost on complaint of the lady worker against the driver and another person for reportedly spreading the video on social media.
On the other hand, the driver clarified that he was only arguing about the toll fees with the lady at the counter. Earlier, they charged Rs 80 per trip, but this time they charged Rs 180, which is double the rate, he said.
