‘Simsang festival’ aims at luring tourists

 SHILLONG: With an aim to attract national and international tourists, the district administration of East Garo Hills has decided to create a Brand Value for the ‘Simsang festival’ also known as ‘Winter festival’ in Williamnagar by organising the Simsang Beat Contest besides other attractive activities on December 14 and 15.

In the meeting which was held between V K Matri, Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills along with all the Officers of the District, NGO leaders, Principals of Schools in Williamnagar and prominent citizens of Williamnagar on Friday, a resolution was taken to organize the Simsang festival in a big way.

The biggest attraction of the festival will be Simsang Beat Contest which will be the mother of all Rock Contests in Meghalaya with One Lakh Rupees Prize money for the best Rock Band.

This festival formerly celebrated as the winter festival will now onwards be called the Simsang Festival taking into consideration the fact that Simsang River is the largest river of Garo Hills which originates from the Nokrek mountains and moves eastwards through Williamnagar, and flows down through South Garo hills District and finally enters Bangladesh.
