TURA, Feb 16: With the reports of a newborn being allegedly dropped in a dustbin and various organisations approaching the competent authorities, East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe on Tuesday directed Williamnagar Civil Hospital to submit a report on the matter.
Various organisations from the town including the GSU, FKJGP, FAF, AHAM, Mothers’ Federation and the Mothers’ Union, submitted a complaint to the DC, alleging that the incident had taken place on February 13 where a newborn was dropped in a dustbin. They further alleged that albeit the incident was kept under wraps in the beginning, family of the patient somehow learned about it later.
According to the organisations, a staff at the hospital had also threatened the family members of giving partial medical treatment to the patient and her baby if the issue would be raised with authorities.
Condemning the incident, they had demanded an immediate inquiry as well as a disciplinary action against the guilty so as to ensure that no such incidents recur in future.
Meanwhile, when contacted, the DC said, “A report has been sought from the hospital authorities with regard to the complaint and further action will be taken accordingly”.
