SHILLONG, Feb 18: Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh on Thursday acknowledged financial institutions like Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank for brining developmental activities in the state.
Lyngdoh was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the new building of Aradonga Higher Secondary (Deficit) School, constructed under the Supporting Human Capital Development and funded by the ADB.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the new school building, Lyngdoh said that financial institutions can help bridge the gap in schools by creating infrastructures.
“I am happy to know that ADB is funding projects for secondary education,” the Speaker said.
He also maintained that the state government alone cannot do everything.
“The school is standing as it is till today and it is growing from year to year because of the dedication and commitment rendered by the teachers of the school. Without their commitment and dedication, I don’t think it will be possible for the school to stand as it is (now),” the Speaker said.
The school authorities also submitted a memorandum, urging the Speaker to coax the government into provincialising the school.
Lyngdoh has assured that he will take up the matter with the Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui.
