Panel to meet to select new DGP

SHILLONG: The state security commission will meet on October 18 to recommend five names to the Government for finalizing the successor of the Director General of Police (DGP) N. Ramachandran.

Ramachandran is retiring on October 31.

According to an official source, the meeting will shortlist five names of police officials of Assam-Meghalaya cadre from among the 10 candidates for the consideration of the Government.

The official said the commission could also suggest extension of Ramachandran’s service for at least three months.

The candidates to be shortlisted for the post of the police chief include the present DG (Prisons) Kulbir Krishan (1976 batch), Director General of Home Guards from Assam, Subhash Goswami and Meghalaya Director General of Civil Defense and Home Guards, Prem Singh (both 1977 batch), B Kezo, DG (Prisons), Nagaland (1978 batch), DK Pathak, ADG training, CRPF posted in Delhi and PJP Haneman (1979 batch).
