TURA, March 3: SSA teachers from Garo Hills under the banner of the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers Association have demanded a hike in their salaries and called on Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui to act on the matter.
In their memorandum to Rymbui, the teachers who are currently paid Rs 19,044 (Lower Primary) and Rs 20,492 (Upper Primary) have sought that their salaries be hiked from the current figure to Rs 45,000 per month.
The teachers said that their salaries were enhanced by the previous government in 2016, since then there has been no further enhancement till date.
Pointing out that the price of petrol and diesel as well as other essential commodities is seeing a frequent hike posing grave economic hardships for them in maintaining their families, the teachers urged that their salary amounts are enhanced at the earliest.
