Govt breaks silence on deaths of minors

SHILLONG, March 18: Power Minister James Sangma on Thursday informed the House that the two minor siblings from Umsalait died of electrocution and it was due to leakage of current.
Laying a statement before the House, James said a police complaint was filed by the Assistant Executive Engineer with Saphai Police Outpost. He said that the deceased have been identified as Pynskhem Papeng and Ardaban Papeng.
According to James, the Superintending Engineer, Jaintia Hills (Dist) Circle, in the report, indicated that the cause of electrocution is due to leakage of current.
He said MePDCL has approved the supply and erection of electrical network equipment by mobile tower operators to provide power supply to locations of mobile towers.
