SHILLONG, March 25: NEIGRIHMS director, Dr P Bhattarcharya, on Wednesday released a book that explains why love is the reason for one and all to live. The book titled Love—The Reason We Live. A Physiological Mandate has been authored by Assistant Prof, Physiology dept, Dr John Amote Lyngdoh.
While speaking to reporters after the book release, Dr Lyngdoh said this book addresses the ever-challenging question — the reason why man hays to exist — that has been bothering humanity for a long time.
“Why are we here? This is a commonly asked question that has bewildered men for ages. When this same question was raised by my niece, who is now 7 years old, I realised that there is a need to find an answer that holds a scientific background and flavour, which is convincing. The gravity of the question became intense and the urgency to find the answer was felt greatly,” the author of the book said.
According to Dr. Lyngdoh, the issue of existentialism has been a persistent irritant lingering in the back of his mind.
“Being a physiologist, I sought to apply the current knowledge and data in the field of Physiology and related disciplines to support the idea I gathered from experiential encounters in life that love is the mandate of human existence,” he said.
He informed that he had supported the idea by revealing the existence of a neural or brain design in which multiple brain circuits work in tandem to enable men experience the effects and joy of love. “The narratives also suggest that the doctrine of survival of self and species is but a medium, and a prerequisite that allows the fulfilment of the human agenda to experience the joy of love in the continuum of time,” Dr Lyngdoh said.
“Understanding the fact that the human mandate is to experience love can help humanity reflect and change the way they conduct their lives,” the author added.
