Army major chargesheeted

SHILLONG: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has chargsheeted an Army officer for accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a contractor here.

Major Mohan Singh, Assistant, Garrison Engineer (Independent), Umroi Military Station, Meghalaya was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting an illegal gratification of Rs 25,000 from the complainant as a reward for issuance of Acceptance Letters in favour of the contractor for two construction works.

The CBI submitted the chargesheetbefore the court of Special Judge, CBI, Shillong on Thursday.

“During investigation, it was proved that he (Major Singh) demanded an illegal gratification of Rs 50,000 from the complainant as a reward for issuance of acceptance letters in favour of the complainant of the two contract work of the bills amounting to Rs 10.15 lakh for works already done by the complainant,” the chargesheet said.

It was also proved that Major Mohan Singh demanded and accepted a bribe amount of Rs 25,000 out of demanded bribe amount of Rs 50,000, which was reduced from Rs 70,000, from the complainant as a reward for issuance of acceptance letters, work orders for different works, payment of different bills, clearance of pending final bill and work order which was kept pending by him, the chargesheet further said.After completion of investigation of the case, a chargesheet was submitted against Major Singh Under section 7 and Section 13(2) r/w. 13(1) & (d) of P.C. Act 1988 in the court of Special Judge, CBI, Shillong.
