KOHIMA: Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Minister Khuzoluzo Nienu has informed that the proposed Medical College projected in Dimapur may remain a distant dream with the Centre not giving any serious thought to fulfill the project.

Speaking at the sideline of a sports programme on Saturday Nienu said there is been no positive response from the Union Government so far in this regard.

He informed that this issue had also been a part of the agenda discussed during the annual body meeting of the Christian Institute of Health Science and Research (CIHSR) held on Saturday.

He said all is not lost as regards the Health sector and a sum of Rs 8 Crore has already been sanctioned for the upcoming Nursing College which will be attached with CIHSR.

The proposal is that the nursing college will be affiliated to the Nagaland University.

With a ‘No Objection Certificate’ already issued by the NU in this regard, inspection by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) is awaited.

This will be followed by inspection from the Assam Nursing Council, the Minister informed.

As for the proposed Para-Medical Training Institute, Nienu said funds will be sanctioned in about 2-3 months time.

On the threat faced by the CIHSR through constant erosion of Chathe River which flows along side its periphery, the Health Minister inspected the site and informed that the matter will be taken up with the Irrigation and Flood Control Department. (UNI)
