SHILLONG: With the Nagaland Government not keen to release its DG (prisons) B Kezo and the latter refusing to join Meghalaya as DGP, the State Home department has sent the files with the remaining four names, DG (Prisons) Kulbir Krishan (1976 batch), Director General of Home Guards from Assam, Subhash Goswami and Meghalaya Director General of Civil Defense and Home Guards, Prem Singh (both 1977 batch) and DK Pathak, ADG training, CRPF posted in Delhi (1979 batch) to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma for his consideration.
An official said on Tuesday that it was up to the Chief Minister to take the final call on the matter. Sources, however, said that as per rules it is the prerogative of the Meghalaya Govt to recall Kezo to his parent cadre (Assam-Meghalaya)
As a matter of rule the parent state can recall its cadre officers from any state or from the Centre when he/she is on deputation.
Altogether five names including that of Kezo were cleared by the State Security Commission during its meeting held recently.
It is learnt that Kezo is expecting to become DGP of Nagaland and did not expect to be appointed as DGP, Meghalaya.
Kezo now wants to continue in Nagaland till he is appointed as the new DGP of that state. But this has put the Meghalaya Government in trouble as the state Home Department had earlier written to the Centre to relieve Kezo from the current posting which, however, is yet to be approved by the Centre. Another headache is that senior police official, Prem Singh, who was empanelled along with four others, wrote a letter to the Home department expressing his desire to opt out of the race.
An official source said with only three names remaining in the current list (Krishan, Goswami and Pathak), there are two options before the Government. One is to select the new DGP from among the remaining three. The other is to convene another meeting of the State Security Commission to include two more names as the Commission has the mandate of nominating five candidates. If the Commission meets again then the names of officials next in line are PJP Haneman (1979 batch) and AK Mathur (1980 batch, currently Director ,NEPA), sources added.
