SHILLONG, April 30: Police on Friday rescued a minor from Jorhat in Assam who had gone missing from the city last month.
According to a statement on Friday, the parents of the minor girl had on March 4 registered a complaint with Madanrting Police Station, stating that the minor had gone missing on her way to school.
Prima facie, it was suspected that the minor was lured by one Pankaj Kumar Bharadwaj (22), who, too, had disappeared from the area.
The district police promptly swung into action and while trying to track him down, it was discerned that he had been at various locations, viz. Guwahati (Assam), Darjeeling (West Bengal), Siliguri (West Bengal) and Dhubri (Assam).
Albeit the police teams in the aforesaid locations were activated, the efforts to rescue the minor went all in vain with the accused still on the run.
The police, after several attempts, tracked him down at Himachal Pradesh, where he was allegedly being aided by his mother.
A police team from East Khasi Hills then left for Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, on April 7, only to find the mother and neither the accused nor the victim.
The mother was subsequently apprehended and further investigation once again steered the police to Assam, this time it was Jorhat city.
During the search operation with assistance from Jorhat police, the district police finally succeeded in rescuing the minor girl and nabbing the accused.
The police team is currently en route to Shillong along with the victim and the accused during the filing of this report.
