TURA, May 3: In a surprising development that is expected to bring some good news to the hundreds of unpaid GHADC employees, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma held a meeting with the new CEM Benedic R Marak and Secretary Rikse Marak at his office in Shillong on Monday.
The chief minister has termed the meeting as ‘positive’ and assured of steps to be taken that will benefit the GHADC.
“In the meeting we took up the problem of long pending salaries of the council employees who have not been able to receive their monthly dues. It was a positive discussion in the presence of finance officials of the state. From the council side, both the CEM and the Secretary placed before us several options to turn things around. I have suggested that they take it up in the new EC and forward to the government so that we can take up the matter,” informed the chief minister.
“Various issues facing the GHADC were discussed and finance department officials also attended. Meeting was positive and a lot of reforms and issues of the council were taken up in the meeting, such as financial reforms, framing of financial rules, administrative reforms and the need for framing of service rules were discussed,” Sangma pointed out.
He made it a point that the importance of e-governance particularly computerisation to ensure transparency in the financial system was a crucial matter raised in the meeting.
