SHILLONG, May 4: The state government has added ten new fully-equipped ambulances to its fleet of 43 deployed across the state.
“We have received ten new fully-equipped ambulances which will be added to the existing fleet and I think we can manage for now,” Health Minister AL Hek disclosed on Tuesday.
He added that the government was monitoring the prevailing situation on a daily basis and if situation demands, the state will get more ambulances.
The ambulances were procured under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme, Hek informed.
On the EMRI 108 emergency service forewarning the state government that there might be a crisis if there is an exponential surge in COVID cases, Hek said, “There is a shortage because the ambulances have spread out to all the districts but we are trying to manage.”
A majority of the new ambulances are likely to be deployed in East Khasi Hills, the worst-hit district in the state, where only three 108 ambulances are operational, besides two– three more in the periphery.
