Followers turn to social media recalling Tagore

SHILLONG, May 9: Admirers of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore paid tribute to him at Brookside here while also remembering the renowned poet and writer on his 160th birth anniversary.
The highlight of the programme was that it was organised and streamed on social media with the aim of connecting Tagore admires from different places on the occasion. The programme was organised by Malabika Bisharad.
Brookside holds significance for the fact that Tagore stayed in the place in the year 1919and it is also the backdrop of his famous novel — “Sesher Kobita”/“Farewell My Friend”.
The prgoramme also aimed at encouraging children and others across the globe as the battle against the pandemic rages, especially in India.
Artists from the USA and different parts of India partook in the programme.
Around 40 people joined the programme “Kobi Swaran”/“Remembering the Poet” including children and youth. Moreover, Freddy Roy Kharkongar, Commissioner and Secretary, Arts and Culture department, also paid his tributes to Tagore. Many prominent personalities sent in their good wishes to the oranisers.
