SHILLONG: In a proud moment for the State, Archery Association of Meghalaya (AAM) president Matsiewdor War Nongbri has been elected as the new vice president of the Archery Association of India (AAI).

War was elected to the post of vice president of the national body during the election which was held in New Delhi on November 9.

The AAM president is the second person from the state to hold this prestigious after the late Woodward Sohliya, who was also founder member of the AAI.

When contacted on Monday, War said that the election to the post was held under the supervision of the independent observer consisting of members of the Indian Olympic Committee (IOC) and Sports Authority of India (SAI).

“It is an honour for me to be able to be holding such an important position in the AAI. I hope I would be to make some valuable contributions towards upliftment of archery both the national and international level,” she said.

It may be mentioned that War had represented India at the London Olympics as one of the judges in the archery events.

Incumbent Vijay Kumar Malhotra was re-elected as President of the Association.

He defeated Assam unit vice-president BVP Rao in the controversy-marred elections, which were held after three postponements.
