St Edmund’s, Umshyrpi to clash in cricket final

SHILLONG: St Edmund’s College defeated St Anthony’s College by 17 runs, while Umshyrpi College defeated Kiang Nongbah College by 81 runs in the semifinal matches of the Inter College Cricket Tournament at Polo Grounds here on Monday.

St Anthony’s won the toss and elected to field. St Edmund’s then scored 128-8 in 25 overs with Dipankar Dutta scoring 52 runs, while Mayborn Lyngdoh and Bijay Deb took a brace of wickets each.

St Anthony’s fell short in the chase, managing only 111-9 off their allotted 25 overs.

Suresh Sunar cored 46 and Swarajeet Das starred for Edmund’s by bagging four wickets for 12 runs.

In the second match, Umshyrpi College won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 136-8 wickets in their 25 overs.

There were a couple of key contributions from Sunil Sunar (22) and Manish Prasad (21). Jeffrey Litting took three wickets.

In reply, Kiang Nongbah College were bundled out for a paltry 55 runs in 13 overs. Uttam Chanda claimed a five-wicket haul for the winners.

The final will be held on Tuesday.
