Series of Seminars in NER Agri Expo in Nagaland

Kohima: The three-day NER Agri Expo 2012 will witness a series of national seminars and farmers’-scientists’ workshop where prominent resource persons will take up a series of important topics.

According to a statement, a National Seminar on Progressive Agriculture has been organised by the Government of Nagaland, ICAR-NEH, Central Institute of Horticulture, Nagaland and School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD), Nagaland University to promote Agriculture and Horticulture sector in NER with focus on production, processing and marketing.

The poster presentation on the theme “Success story on Agricultural technologies and ITKs” will highlight any agriculture technology or ITK having visible impact or potentiality for enhancement of farm/family income.

Farmers-scientists interaction would focus on resilient agriculture in context of climate change; horticulture for nutritional and income security; animal husbandry for economic uplift of farmers.

Special features of the farmers’ scientists’ interaction will include a day-long video show on latest technologies in agriculture; lead papers will be presented by nationally/internationally acclaimed experts; presentation by innovative farmers/students of the NER; poster presentation on success stories in Agricultural Technologies and ITKs and on the spot collection of application form for registration of farmers’ variety by Protection of Plant Variety and Farmers’ Rights Authority of India (PPV & FRA).

Buyers and sellers meet will focus on developing suitable market channels for the produce from the region. A number of prominent buyers from the region as well as the national markets will be a part of the programme.

Key speakers of the seminars include Dr K M Bajarbaruah, Vice Chancellor, Assam Agriculture University, Dr S N Puri, Vice Chancellor, CAU, Alok, CEO Synergy Technofin, New Delhi, Dr S P Ghosh, former DDG (Horti), Dr C Rajkhowa, Director, NRCM and Dr N C Talukdar, ICAR, the release said. (UNI)
