SHILLONG/ TURA, May 13: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has informed that a total of 21.5 lakh consumers in the state will benefit out of the additional allotment of rice by the Centre through NFSA for May and June.
Tynsong told reporters that NFSA beneficiaries will also get free rice at the scale of five kg per head for the two months apart from the additional allotment of rice at the rate of Rs 3 per kg.
Replying to a query, he said that the government has not considered providing financial assistance to any section of the society affected by the lockdown. “The situation this year is totally different. Despite the lockdown, few relaxations were provided. The job card holders of the MGNREGA are still continuing with the work under this scheme. We are also allowing construction work to continue for labourers who are residing inside the campus,” the deputy chief minister said.
According to Tynsong, the impact on livelihood this time is not substantial as yet since only East Khasi Hills has been put under lockdown.
“The people now know how to deal with this kind of situation unlike last year when everyone was caught by surprise when the pandemic first hit the state,” Tynsong added.
