JOWAI: The Jaintia Hills Coal and Cement Traders’ Association (JHCCTA) held its meeting on Monday and decided to issue warning to all cement plants officials who purchase coal by themselves.

“We have decided that no officials of any cement plants located in East Jaintia Hills would be allowed to purchase coal directly from any coal depot in Jaintia Hills as it would affected local suppliers,” JHCCTA president Balen Thubru informed.

“Cement companies should rely on local coal suppliers for their requirement,” he added

The leader of the association also requested local traders not to assault any cement plant officials if found that they are purchasing coal directly.

The Traders’ Association also warned cement companies against directly purchasing coal from other states.

The JHCCTA further informed that with a view to check the practice of ‘benami’ trade, coal suppliers from other districts particularly from West Khasi Hills should first meet the leaders of the JHCCTA before they make any supply of coal to cement plants.
