NONGSTOIN: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP), Nongstoin Circle has asked the PWD department NH-44(E) Division to immediately repair and widen the road from Sohpian to Nongstoin covering a distance of 7km.

The FKJGP on Tuesday met the Engineer of PWD (Road) Highway Division, in Shillong, and demanded immediate repair and widening of the said road which is the gateway to Nongstoin.

“It is shameful to see that before entering Nongstoin one should be welcome by the horrible road condition,” Kyntiewlangbor Syiem, FKJGP Nongstoin circle president, said, while adding that the road from Sohpian to Nongstoin is too narrow resulting in lots of problems for large vehicles plying through the road.

Stating that the 7km-long road was excluded from the DPR of the two-lane Shillong-Nongsoin-Tura road project, Syiem demanded the PWD department to immediately sanction funds for widening and repair of the said road.

Meanwhile, official sources from the PWD department informed that the proposal for construction of the 7km road connecting Sohpian to Nongstoin estimated at Rs 6.70 crore has already been sent to Delhi and the department was awaiting sanction of the same before commencing the construction work.
