Govt yet to find new DGP

SHILLONG: It has been almost two weeks since N Ramachandran retired as the DGP, but the State government is yet to find his successor. Senior IPS officer Rajiv Mehta has been looking after the affairs of the state police as the acting DGP for the last 14 days. The State Security Commission initially had recommended five names (DG (Prisons) Kulbir Krishan (1976 batch), Director General of Home Guards from Assam, Subhash Goswami and Director General of Civil Defense and Home Guards, Prem Singh (both 1977 batch), B Kezo, DG (Prisons), Nagaland (1978 batch) and DK Pathak, ADG training, CRPF posted in Delhi (1979 batch) for the post.

The state government recommended Kezo’s name for the post. However, Kezo turned down the offer since he wants to continue with his present assignment in Nagaland.

Another IPS officer, DK Pathak later opted out of the race.

Meanwhile, Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh informed said that he would meet Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma to discuss the issue of appointment of DGP on Thursday.

“We would like to speed up the appointment of a new DGP, “Lyngdoh said on Wednesday.
