TURA, May 18: Agitating employees of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), under the umbrella of the NGEA, on Tuesday turned down Tura MP Agatha Sangma’s assurance and instead put forward suggestions to end the salary crisis in the Council.
On Monday, Agatha had not only appealed to the employees of the GHADC to call off the strike but had also assured that she will bring an end to the impasse in the Council.
Replying to Agatha’s appeal, the NGEA maintained that the five months’ salary will not be enough to pay off their dues that have gotten accumulated with the passage of time in the form of loans from banks and private bodies with interests.
The NGEA, acknowledging the MP’s concern, suggested her to take up the matter with the Centre and request for financial assistance so as to clear all the dues as well as arrears.
The Association has also sought the intervention of the MP into the irregularities, mismanagement, et al., on the collection of revenue, royalty share and the implementation of central schemes from 2015 to 2020. It has also called for a CBI inquiry into the irregularities in the Council.
The NGEA also requested the MP to invite the aggrieved families of the GHADC employees, who lost their lives allegedly due to the non-payment of salaries, and become au courant with their hardships.
The NGEA has also suggested that the matter be taken up with the state government, particularly with the District Council Affairs department, so that it can bail out the GHADC and end the long-pending crisis.
