Trekking road inaugurated

SHILLONG: The newly constructed cobbled trekking route from Umkynrut-Kynjat Phutbol up to Shillong view point, Laitkor was inaugurated by Laban MLA-MDC Sanbor Shullai at Kynjat Phutbol, Upper Lumparing here on Saturday.

A statement in this regard said that the scheme was initiated by the legislator.

The objective of the project is to attract more locals as well as tourists to reach Shillong view point with ease without any interference and at the same time, create an adventurous and environment friendly walk or trek to the Shillong view point besides creating an opportunity for the local populace to generate self employment and earn more revenue.

The local MLA also distributed blankets cum mosquito nets and bed cover items to 315 BPL families of different communities.

The total expenditure of the project is Rs 24, 15, 200 which was sanctioned under Tourism departmental scheme 2008-09 and Rs 1, 57, 500 as expenditure for blankets cum mosquito nets and bed cover items recommended by local MLA under SUWP fund 2011-2012.
