‘World’s longest’ online event on environment today

SHILONG, June 3: In what has been dubbed as the ‘world’s longest online environment event’, an NGO called Act Now will organise a 24-hour long online event on the occasion of the launch of ‘Decade of Restoration’ by United Nations Environment Programme as part of the celebration of World Environment Day.
The event, titled ‘Peace Is Green-Every Act Matters’, will go on for a duration of 24 hours non-stop starting Friday noon, a statement issued here informed.
The event will be inaugurated by United Nations Environment Programme Head, Tim Christophersen, along with CBSE Director, Dr Biswajit Saha.
Founder of Act Now, Rajiv K Shrivastava, said, “For us, sustainable development is environmental, economic, social and cultural well-being for today and tomorrow”. He informed that the event will be joined by environmental experts, climate activists, youth voices, wildlife and forest experts, ocean and blue economy experts, mountain experts, educators, students, the thinkers and the doers from more than 70 countries.
Some notable names scheduled to attend the event are Nigel Topping, UN COP26 Climate Champion, Peter Hillary, son of legendary Edmund Hillary, Niall Maccan, National Geographic Explorer, Bittu Sahgal, founder of Sanctuary Asia, Mika Vanhanen, founde of Environment Online, Ridhima Pandey, Youth Climate Activist, Lindsey Coffey, Miss Earth 2020, Nicole Faria, Miss Earth 2010, Jordan Sanchez, poet and voice behind UNEP launch video.
