SHILLONG, June 22: Congress leader Ampareen Lyngdoh on Tuesday demanded an inquiry into the alleged diversion of foodgrain under a Central government scheme.
“The Chief Minister’s bid to clarify through the media makes the inquiry necessary,” she said.
Lyngdoh said a proper probe would let the people know why the Assam police confiscated 12-15 trucks of rice bags allocated for an important scheme to ensure supplementary nutrition for adolescents and children.
“You cannot categorically state in a press conference that everything is fine and under control if the government of Assam has confiscated these many rice bags. If the government has registered a case, there should be clarity,” she said.
The people will not rest until the government provides a detailed report before the government “covers the tracks” between “now and the next session” of the Assembly, she added.
