Second body recovered from EJH mine

SHILLONG, June 24: Navy divers retrieved a second body of a miner trapped inside the coal mine at Krem Ule, Umpleng in East Jaintia Hills (EJH) mine on Thursday afternoon. The first body was retrieved last Wednesday. Further details are awaited.

In continuation of the rescue operation, the rescue teams of NDRF and SDRF verified the level of the water before the Navy Divers resume operation and found it had risen by 29 feet. The Navy Team detected one more body and has retrieved it from the main shaft.

Inquest has been conducted by the Executive Magistrate at the spot and the body was sent to Khliehriat morgue for post-mortem.

Today, again the relatives of the victims from Cachar, Barpeta and Kamrup (Rural), Assam and Kailashahar, North Tripura District has been informed through their respective Superintendent to Police by WT message to inform the immediate family members of the victims trapped in the coal mine to identify the retrieved bodies.

No one has come forward to identify the recovered body till the time of filing of this report.
