BSF Raising Day today

SHILLONG: The Border Security Force, Meghalaya frontier, so far had arrested 46 militants, including ground workers and linkmen this year.

In a statement issued on Friday, on the eve of its raising day, BSF PRO, Ravi Gandhi said that the force also effected the surrender of three militants.

On the topic of illegal immigrants, the BSF official said that, 131 immigrants and 75 smugglers were also apprehended.

The business of fake Indian currency note, which is thriving along the Indo-Bangla border also saw effective tackling from the BSF. An amount of Rs 5.50 lakhs of FICN was seized, along with 27 racketeers.

Similarly, 54.75 kgs of ganja were also seized, which is to the tune of Rs 3.475 lakhs, while 1.226 Kgs of brown sugar worth Rs 1.25crore, adding contraband items worth Rs. 5.5 Crore was also seized along the border.

It may be mentioned that the BSF, Meghalaya frontier is guarding 443 kilometers of International border with Bangladesh.

The Central Government has already sanctioned border fencing on the International Border with Bangladesh.

Out of 498 Kilometers of border, fencing has been completed on 226.096 Kilometers and work is in progress on 106.977 Kilometers.

According to a statement, the BSF Meghalaya Frontier is undertaking various confidence building measures, to cement relationship with border population of Meghalaya bordering with Bangladesh.

The Meghalaya Frontier BSF, Shillong, will celebrate its 47th Raising Day on Saturday. The BSF is focusing on the involvement of the technology for the effective surveillance of the International border.
