SHILLONG, July 1: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has asked the new Meghalaya Civil Service (MCS) trainee officers to work with passion to serve the society and take the state towards the pedestal of growth.
The chief minister was speaking during the inauguration of the Induction Training Programme of the Meghalaya Civil Service, 2021, which was conducted by the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute, Shillong, on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering, the chief minister said, “As you begin your career, you should imbibe within yourself a sense of responsibility to serve the people with a purpose, a purpose that will enable you to make choices as you discharge your duties”.
Making the trainee officers au courant with the responsibilities and challenges that lie ahead, Conrad suggested them to come up with innovative ways to overcome situations and provide constructive and objective solutions while discharging their duties.
“Our purpose should be to take the state forward. Our purpose is to make transformative change for the overall well-being of the society,” he said.
(“You may at times get frustrated, but politeness and humbleness is the key to overcome such situations and make a positive difference in the society,” the chief minister emphasised.
He also stressed on the different ‘Ps’ of governance, viz. purpose, passion, people, punctuality, politeness, persistence, planning, procedures, patience and pen.
The programme was also attended by Additional Chief Secretary DP Wahlang, Principal Secretary Shakil Ahmed, Director General of MATI RV Suchiang, among others.
The inaugural programme concluded with Wahlang and Suchiang administering the oath of allegiance to the new officer trainees.
It may be mentioned that there are 38 trainee officers, hailing from eight districts of Meghalaya, who will undergo a six-month intensive in-house training programme.
