MAWKYRWAT, July 9: A conglomeration of pressure groups from Mawsynram Block comprising the KSU, FKJGP, HUAM, HANM and HYC, on Friday, demanded of the state government to upgrade the C&RD Block into a Civil Subdivision.
The conglomeration called Kynhun Ki Sengbhalang jong ka Mawsynram Block has threatened to organise a series of agitations if the demand is not fulfilled.
The organisation said that this demand has been raised for the last 20 years, while stating that it expects the chief minister to upgrade Mawsynram into a subdivision before Meghalaya attains 50 years of statehood this year.
Flagging concerns, it said that the people of Mawsynram have been facing many problems such as distance and transportation.
The groups are likely to meet the chief minister and other ministers next week to submit a memorandum on the issue.
If not provided an assurance by the government, they will announce their agitation, the conglomeration of pressure groups said.
