AGARTALA: The banned outfit of All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) has suffered a serious jolt when its self styled chief of army staff Chitta Debbarma alias Bikash Kolai surrendered here on Friday.

This is going to be a major breakthrough since he was also associated with NLFT after being ousted from ATTF. He was in news in July this year when Joel Debbarma, a front line activist of ATTF along with two others, had attacked and killed the wife of Chitta Debbarma in Khagrachari dist, Bangladesh who was working in a hotel now funded by NLFT and established by ATTF a few years ago.

Chitta, a resident of Mandai in West district could give important leads on the merger of ATTF with NLFT as well as its relation with other northeast outfits. He was the armed wing chief of ATTF before the vertical split took place in the group in 2010 and also carries a reward of Rs 2 lakh. He was instrumental in the merger of ATTF with banned outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura about three years ago.

Debbarma had joined the ATTF in the eighties and was a close aide of the chief of the outfit, Ranjit Debbarma.

He married a tribal woman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bangladesh, who was killed on July 12 by insurgent leader Sachindra Debbarma and an accomplice. With inputs from agencies)
