Sohra Cong remembers former local legislator

SHILLONG, Aug 3: The Sohra Block Congress Committee has termed the passing away of former Sohra MLA Dr PW Khongjee as a loss to the Congress party and the entire Sohra Constituency.
Remembering the senior politician, the Sohra Congress, in a statement, said, “Late Dr PW Khongjee had been an active member of the Congress Party since 2004 after he contested and won the District Council elections. He also won the elections to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in 2008 from the Congress party. Dr Khongjee’s contributions to the people and constituency both as MDC and MLA (2004-2013) are immeasurable. All these contributions will remain a blessing to the people of Sohra in times to come”.
During his tenure as MDC, Khongjee held the post of Deputy Chairman of the KHADC and was also the vice chairman of MCCL.
The Sohra Congress asserted that during his tenure as the MLA of Sohra, tourism received a boost and many facilities were started which also led to creation of jobs for local people.
Members of the Sohra Block Congress Committee have conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Dr Khongjee.
It is worth mentioning here that former MLA of Sohra, Dr. Phlour W Khongjee, passed away on Sunday last at Nazareth Hospital due to COVID-19 complications. He was 63.
He was undergoing treatment at the hospital since July 16 after testing positive.
He is survived by his wife and eight children.
Despite being an active politician, Dr Khongjee was also private medical practitioner and had a clinic at Umsning in Ri Bhoi.
