JOWAI: The Shillong bench of Gauhati High Court has directed the JHADC to conduct the election of Pator under Sumer Patorship within Elaka Raliang in Jaintia Hills district.

Following the court order, the JHADC has now decided to hold the election in August. The date for election will be fixed shortly by the District Council, sources said.

According to a notice issued by the JHADC Deputy Secretary on Tuesday, the election will be conducted by the office in the presence of the Dolloi, Elaka Raliang.

Earlier, the election of Pator in any Elakas in Jaintia Hills was conducted by the Dolloi and the officials of the Elaka Dorbar. This time as per the court order, the election of Pator under Sumer Patorship will be conducted by the JHADC.

It may be mentioned that former Pator, Riming Paslein who was appointed by the JHADC on the recommendation of the Dolloi, Elaka Raliang to assist the Dolloi under Sumer patorship was terminated and in his place, the JHADC Executive Committee led by Hambertus Nongtdu appointed Begin Paslein as the acting Pator.

Interestingly, on November last year, the then Executive Committee terminated the services of the Acting Pator to hold a fresh election. Till date no election took place.

Following delaying in holding the election, the Sub-Dorbar Sumer Patorship filed a petition against the JHADC in the High Court following which the High Court directed the JHADC to hold the election to the post of Pator within 45 days.

This is the second time the High Court has issued a directive to the JHADC to hold the Election of Pator. The first order was issued on December 12 last year. On receiving the first order the JHADC filed another petition seeking more time from the court.

In this regard, a public notice was issued by the JHADC on Tuesday to inform all concerned Rangbah shnongs and the general public in the area.

The public noticed has also mentioned that a person belong to Paslein, Sumer, Papeng, Manner, Tangliang, Latam and Yndoh clans are eligible to contest the election.
