SHILLONG: The Winter Hockey Coaching Camp, organised by the Meghalaya State Hockey Association (MSHA), concluded on Thursday at Madan Iewrynghep, Laitumkhrah.

The coaching camp, which started on December 12, witnessed the active participation of 140 people.

Addressing the valedictory function here on Thursday, Assistant Engineer of the Urban Department, Budraplang Nongrum, lauded the efforts of MSHA, stating that such initiatives will help this sport grow again and at the same time help all those interested at all age groups learn about the game.

He added that it would also give them an opportunity to represent the state and make a name for themselves.

Stating that hockey is a national sport of the country, Nongrum said, “This game has also been on the forefront in the past few years where a number of our talented players have represented the state of Assam in various tournaments.”

However, he mentioned that without a proper hockey field in the state, the sport has been in decline for some time.
