SHILLONG: It is a very long holiday for the State Government employees with the closure of offices on Saturday. The next working day will be January 2 next year.

Saturday was made a working day to compensate for December 28 and to ensure that there is no break during the holiday.

However, even if the offices are opened, the hangover of festivity will continue almost till the end of this month. An exception is that at least the election and police departments have to prepare for elections due sometime in February next. However, some senior officials including the Chief Secretary have to accompany Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma for the National Development Council meeting scheduled in Delhi from December 27.

The Ministers and MLAs will have no rest as they will utilize these holidays for campaigning.
