NONGPOH, Aug 29: In the wake of border tension after recent clash between Assam Police and NGO members from Meghalaya in Block-II area of Ri Bhoi, the All Meghalaya Karbi Association has expressed concern over the situation.
In this regard, the association has strongly objected to certain speeches and comments on social media against the Karbi community of Meghalaya.
“The Karbis are peace loving people and law abiding people and had never interfered or instigated any group to create tensions in the border. Therefore, issuing of threats and posting racial and communal slurs against our community has no basis and can never be accepted,” the association said in a statement.
Pointing at the ongoing border talks between Meghalaya and Assam, the association has urged the people of both the states to refrain from disturbing the peace.
On Wednesday last, a section of the residents had an altercation with members of HYC who had visited the Umlaper, a disputed area.
