SHILLONG: The Election Commission is likely to announce schedule of Assembly polls in three Northeastern states after the poll panel delegation completes visit to the poll-bound states — Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura, on January 8.

A delegation of the Commission led by Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath is expected to reach Agartala on Saturday.

The Chief Electoral Officer of Meghalaya P. Naik on Thursday said that a meeting of the Commission with the State election officials, all the DCs and SPS will be held on January 7 here. The next day, the Commission will meet the press to explain the election preparedness.

Naik said that the State Election Department was fully prepared to conduct the elections.

In 2008, the Assembly election in the State was held on March 3 and a new Government was formed exactly one week later.
