MAWKYRWAT, Sep 23: The Ranikor CHC, which was reeling under zero electricity supply for over a week, was provided back the same after the provider’s office was forcibly shut down.
The electricity in the CHC in South West Khasi Hills was cut off by FEDCO, allegedly due to the non-payment of dues, which amount to over 25 lakh, by the Health department.
Informing that the electricity was cut off on September 16, doctor in-charge of the CHC, Dr. P Warjri, said, “Since that day, we faced a lot of problem, especially when there were patients who had to be admitted in the hospital. The medical equipment here require electricity to function. Also, injections need to be kept in machines which require electricity to run. Following the non-supply of electricity, we had to relocate the machines to offices of other departments nearby.”
She added that she had also intimated the Deputy Commissioner and the local MLA in this regard.
Meanwhile, the KSU Ranikor Circle, after conducting an inspection of the CHC, expressed concern over the failure on the part of Health department to solve the problem.
Irked over the FEDCO’s situation-handling, the KSU said, “For other departments we don’t want to interfere, but incidents like are unacceptable.”
The Union also asked the Health department to ensure that such things are not repeated in future.
Later in the day, the infuriated members of the KSU Ranikor Circle closed down the office of the FEDCO in Ranikor and, within a span of few hours, it was informed that the electricity was back in the CHC.
