Gorkha body condemns rape incidents in Nagaland, M’laya

SHILLONG: The Bhartiya Gorkha Parisangh has condemned the incidents of rapes and murders against innocent children and women in the last two months in Nagaland and Meghalaya and has asked the authorities in these states to provide speedy trial to punish the culprits.

The Gorkha body condemned the rape and murder of a 22-year-old woman, a mother of two children on November 2 at Medziphema (Nagaland), the rape of a 4-year-old child on December 25 near Peren on the Nagaland-Manipur border, the abduction and rape of a 12-year-old girl at Borjan near Naginimora (Nagaland) and the rape of a 12-year-old girl from the community at Byrnihat, Ri-Bhoi district which have pained and shocked the entire community across the country and especially in the Northeastern region.

The body asked the governments of Nagaland, Manipur and Meghalaya to take harshest possible action against the culprits as per law and requested the courts to give them the maximum punishment.

The Gorkha body also condemned the heinous and inhuman rape of the 23-year-old paramedical student in Delhi.

The Parisangh mentioned that they were in touch with the administration and police in these states regarding the steps being taken in follow up of the cases.

The Bharatiya Gorkha Parishang (Central committee) and Assam Gorkha Sammelan also extended their support to a protest march being organised by Dimapur Gorkha Union (DGU) in Dimapur in Nagaland against rape incidents in that state and elsewhere in the country.
