Mawshynrut-Hahim road work begins; spirits lifted

NONGSTOIN, Oct 1: In a development that has brought cheers for locals and many others who were aggrieved over the pathetic condition of road from Mawshynrut to Hahim, construction of the aforementioned road has begun registering good progress of work, thereby gaining full cooperation of the people.
The upgrade of the state road from Mawshynrut to Hahim (Athiabari) covering a distance of 37.64 kilometres to an intermediate lane under North East Road Sector Development Scheme (NERSDS) of the Ministry of DoNER is worth Rs 99.76 crore. The construction of the road is being executed by Guwahati-based company, TC Construction.
A visit to the site by this correspondent revealed that the construction had started some weeks ago as a stretch of 13 km of the road had already been levelled and some expansion has also been effected.
Ramesh Sing, manager at the company, said that a team which was assigned to start the works from Hahim (Athiabari) end has delayed in starting the process due to some issue related to the disputed area. He hoped that it will be resolved soon.
Headman of Porsohsan, P Nongbri, has thanked the MDA Government for initiation of the project and local MLA Gigur Myrthong for following up the matter with the concerned authority.
Nongbri said that the road from Mawshynrut to Hahim (Athiabari) will connect the two states of Meghalaya and Assam and ease transport for people.
The road will also provide relief to people in terms of communicating for education and health related works, and give a boost to Mawshynrut, the headman said.
Cabbies of Mawshynrut have also lauded the government for starting the road project, which will play a crucial role for them in earning a livelihood with cheers as they use the road relatively more than others.
