SHILLONG, Oct 3: Opposition Chief Whip PT Sawkmie has called upon the government to explore the idea of extending the daily deadline for shops as he reasoned that festivities are in the offing. He even suggested that the curfew hours be lessened or it be completely lifted, if it fits.
“Puja is in the offing and people are in the festive mood and after puja other festivals like Christmas, Seng Kut Snem, and Nongkrem dance, are there. So I urge the government to increase the timing of closure of shops from 7:30 pm to may be 9 or 9:30 pm so that shoppers don’t rush,” Sawkmie said on Sunday.
“Now it is very inconvenient as the shop closes at 7:30 pm and there is a huge rush,” he observed.
Stating that the COVID-19 scenario in the state has also normalised with cases and deaths coming down, he maintained that the state government should consider decreasing curfew hours or lift it, if the government finds it suitable.
He, however, appealed to each and every individual to follow the COVID protocols strictly, while advocating the importance of getting vaccinated.
“I urge everyone to get vaccinated for the safety of themselves and everyone,” he added.
